standard position
ANATOMICAL POSITION
lies flat with chest down and the back up
PRONE POSITION
lying horizontally with the face and torso facing up
SUPINE POSITION
a cut along the lengthwise, or longitudinal plane of the body, dividing the body into right and left parts (can be unequal cut)
SAGITTAL PLANE
divides left and right equally
MEDIAN (MIDSAGITTAL) PLANE
divides anterior and posterior
CORONAL (FRONTAL) PLANE
diagonal horizontal plane
OBLIQUE PLANE
divides superior and anterior equally
TRANSVERSE PLANE
the lower part of the body (directional term)
SUPERIOR (CRANIAL OR CEPHALIC)
the upper part of the body (directional term)
INFERIOR (CANDAL)
the front part of the body (directional term)
ANTERIOR (VENTRAL)
the back part of the body (directional term)
POSTERIOR (DORSAL)
away from the midline of the body (directional term)
LATERAL
toward/at the midline of the body (directional term)
MEDIAL
closer to the origin of the body part (directional term)
