Mods and Rockers (Cohen) 1964
-two different subcultures mods used scooters rockers used bikes
-cohen examined societal reactions to disturbances that occured in Clacton over april bank holiday
-mass media showed them as ‘hell bent on destruction’
-in reality media distorted and sensationalised the events
-moral panic was created which led to further arrests and further disruptions

-found that youth subcultures make distinctions between good and bad taste
three cultural distinctions in clubbing culture:
1) Authenticity: tech and artificial music and dj admired
2) Hip: specific clothes jeans and kicker boots
3) underground: FUTURE RAVES IS VIA word of mouth clubbers often dislike media releasing info about them
