Order statistics of a given sample?
Sample values arranged in non-decreasing order (order). Assuming all the data values are different, if x_(x) is the r th smallest sample value, let Q^(r/(n + 1)) = x(r)
It’s hard to make judgements when you have a?
Small Sample
Linear transformation with quantiles?
Q_p,Y = aQ_p,X + b, a != 0
Five number summary?
Min, Q_1, Q_ 2, Q_ 3, Max
Boxplot?
A graph consisting of a number line being drawn from the minimum to the maximum data value. A box is placed over the line with ends located at the first and third quartile of the dataset. A line is drawn inside the box perpendicular to the number line through the second quartile.
In a box plot, how does it look if it comes from a symmetric distribution?
The first 25% and the bottom 25% will be the same.
Outlier?
A data value far outside the range of most of the other data values.
How do you decide the outlier?
If its greater than Q_3 + #IQR or less than Q - #IQR
IQR?
Q_3 - Q_1
Bar charts?
A random variable whose numerical values represent mutually exclusive and exhaustive categories of outcomes called a categorical variable.
!!!Facts about bar plots? 6•
•a random variable can be obtained by assigning numerical values to the categories,
•The numberings of the categories can be but not necessarily arbitrary.
•either there is no order to the categories, but there is a order but the differences are not numerically interpretable.
•generally, the numbering scheme is not used when talking about the variable
•the numbering scheme can make performing computations possible or easier
•a Bernoulli random variable can be thought of as representing a categorical variable
