13.3-4 Reaction Of Alkenes Flashcards
What happens in the addition of hydrogen?
Simple saturation
What happens when Br2 reacts with ethene?
Br2 is polarised and the positive end is attracted to the pie bond and an electron pair moves from the delta positive to the delta negative Br
The positive Br join double bonded carbon to make a carbocation
The lone pair on the left over negative Br bonds to the new positive carbon on the carbocation
What are the primary secondary and tertiary carbocation?
Primary- c+ bonded to 2 hydrogens and 1 chain
Secondary-c+ bonded to 1 hydrogens and 2 chains
Tertiary-c+ bonded to 0 hydrogens and 3 chains
How does the addition of water work?
The same electrophilic addition occurs with the H on phosphoric acid to make a carbocation with H and a phosphoric acid with no H and a O on it with a lone pair and - charge, the H20 joins the the c+ and the left over acid takes the H to leave an alcohol
What are the 6 reactions of alkenes?
Adding a group 1 halogen
Adding hydrogen gas with nickel catalyst
Combustion
Adding halides
Water with phosphoric acid
