Baroque dates:
1600–1750
Baroque
comes from the Portuguese word barroco, meaning misshapen pearl. The negative use of the word comes from a description of ornate and heavily ornamented architecture. Music inspired by divinity
Age of Enlightenment:
The principal goals of Enlightenment thinkers were liberty, progress, reason, tolerance, fraternity, and ending the abuses of the church and state.
The Industrial Revolution:
was the transition to new manufacturing processes in the period from about 1760 to 1820.
Basso continuo:
The bass part often played by two instruments
Trio Sonata
Usually consisting of five instruments; the three soloist and two basso continuo.
Cadenza:
Virtuosic solo passage in the manner of improvisation.
Classical:
Music as universal order and logic. Music inspired by humanity
Galant style:
refers to the style which was fashionable from the 1720s to the 1770s. This movement featured a return to simplicity and immediacy of appeal after the complexity of the late Baroque era.
