What was the theory of the 4 humours?
Everyone had a mix of Blood, phlegm, black bile and yellow bile- and would become ill if these were unbalanced
What was the theory of opposites?
Galen thought 4 humours would be balanced out oppositely in order to treat the patients illness.
Who was Galen?
A Greek doctor who developed Hippocrates ideas (4 H) and mainly used bloodletting and purging to prevent and treat illnesses.
Who was Hippocrates?
Greek doctor whose ideas were very influential (4 H).
He wrote the Hippocratic oath where doctors swore to respect life and prevent harm.
What is Miasma?
A theory that bad smells/ bad air caused disease.
