Q

Why is Schrodingers theory important?

A

It is currently the accepted basis for atomic and molecular structure and unlike Borh’s theory it can be applied to any atom not just hydrogen.

Q

How is any atom described?

A

An electron is described by a wave function, a function of time and portion much like a ordinary wave. The wavefuntion here is a complex number, with the property that the value of the wavefuntion squared at any point gives the probability of finding an electron in a small volume i the neighbourhood of that point.

Q

What are the two things the Schrodinger model predicts?

A

The Schrondinger theory predicts discrete energy levels for the electrons in atoms. It also predicts the intensities of spectral lines - something the Bohr model does not do.
