1.2.4 images Flashcards
what is metadata
A set of instructions used to help the computer construct an image.
what is a pixel
the smallest unit of a digital display
what is colour depth
This is the number of bits used to store the colour for each pixel. The more bits used the more colours that can be represented.
what is PPI
how many individual pixels are displayed in one inch of a digital image
What is a bitmap
A picture which is represented with each pixel being assigned to one colour
what is a vector
computer images created using a sequence of commands or mathematical statements that place lines and shapes in a two-dimensional or three-dimensional space. It is created and saved as a sequence of vector statements.
what is resolution
This is the number of pixels in an image
how is resolution calculated
number of pixels high x number of pixels wide
how can the file size of an image be affected
colour depth
resolution
how to improve image quality
increase resolution -more pixels available
increase colour depth- more colours available
increase DPI
what is DPI
The concentration of pixels
how to work out the file size
find the resolution
times it be the colour depth
what will the file size be mesured in
bits
how to work out the total colours available in an image
2 to the power of the colour depth
what are the two main file storage types for images
.jpg
