12.3 Flashcards
Incomplete Dominance
Blended traits
Chrominance
Both traits expressed
Multiple Alleles
multiple traits coded gene for a single trait
Polygenic Traits
traits controlled by multiple gene
Environment and gene expression
environment decides weather a trait is turned off or on
Mendel’s experiment can not predict what??
incomplete dominance, codominance, Multiple alleles, polygenic traits
Incomplete dominance example
Flower/clothing color
codominance example
speckled color from solid colors
Multiple alleles
blood type, fur
polygenic traits
variety of skin color
In complete dominance, the heterozygous phenotype lies
somewhere between the two homozygous phenotypes.
Incomplete dominance: it in the middle/rotating/ messing up the solid pattern so its a blended trait
Multiple alleles but…
few are expressed for each gene
Genotype
Gene (letters, ex: aa,Aa,AA)
phenotype
trait (color, size)
complete dominance
only dominant masks
Multiple alleles vs polygenic alleles
Multiple Alleles: controlled by one gene with few alleles
Polygenic traits: controlled by multiple genes and many alleles
organism’s phenotype
results from its genotype and its environment
depending on environmental conditions
Some genes produce variable traits
homozygotes
pure
heterozygous
mixed
genes are inherited from which parent
female
polygenic inheritance
the heredity of complex characters that are determined by a large number of genes, each one usually having a relatively small effect.
