Why do we prep skin before EKG?
prevent sliding out of place and artifact from improper adherence. prevent misdiagnosis
What happens if I put on leads wrong?
misinterpretation of EKG. will change wave forms (direction and amplitude)
What factors to consider while placing leads for skin?
skin dry, remove oils and lotion w alcohol, remove hair if needed, abrade skin (gauze), no electrode on bone, no electrode on medicine patch, no electrode on pacemaker or ICD, electrode fully on skin not clothes
Where should you not place an electrode?
on bone, pacemaker, ICD, medicine patch
V1-6 placement?
V1- 4th intercostal space to right of sternum
V2- 4th intercostal space to left of sternum
V3-between V2 and V4
V4-5th intercostal space at midclavicular line
V5-anterior axillary line at same level as V4
V6-midaxillary line at same level as V4 and V5
RL, LL, RA, LA placement?
RL-between torso and ankle
LL-between torso and ankle
RA-between shoulder and elbow
LA-between shoulder and elbow
