1.2 -- joints/range of motion (ROM) Flashcards
depression
refers to movement in an inferior direction
elevation
refers to movement in a superior direction
flexion
bending at the joint so that the angle between the bones is decreased
extension/hyperextension
increases the angle of a joint (straightening/over-straightening)
abduction
the movement of a limb away from the midline of the body
adduction

supination
movement that turns the palm up; turns the ankles outward
pronation
turning the palm downward; turns the ankles inward
circumduction
circular movement of a limb
pivot joint
rotating bone turns around an axis

allow complete rotation to move in all directions
saddle joint
allows grasping & rotation
