Q

How is energy used in active transport?

A

The energy, from respiration, is used to move the transport proteins which move the particles into the cells

Q

How do transport proteins work?

A
  1. It is situated on the cell membrane, molecules for active transport approach it
  2. The molecule is grabbed by the protein to be transported into the cell
  3. The transport protein rotates with the molecule inside, which uses energy from the mitochondria, and deposits the molecule inside the cell
  4. The protein then uses more energy to rotate again and repeat the process again

Q

Why might cells need to use active transport?

A

To absorb substances that are in short supply so none is wasted

Q

What is active transport?

A

Substances being absorbed up/against the concentration gradient, from low to high concentration, going against the natural movement of the substance using energy
