12/4- Oops all angiosperms (until tissues) Flashcards
Important characteristics of angiosperms?
Most diverse plant group.
Others:
- Carpel (female in flowers)
- Double fertilization, leading to endosperm
- Phloem containing sieve tubes and companion cells
Monocots versus dicots?
M versus D
One cotyledon versus two cotyledons (seed leaves).
Flower parts in 3 versus flower parts in 4 or 5
Parallel, straight line leaf versus netlike leaves
Double fertilization
One sperm leads to zygote
One leads to endosperm around zygote
Two types of seed germination
Hypogenous (cotyledon below)
Epigenous (cotyledon above)
Collenchyma versus parenchyma versus sclerenchyma
Parenchyma is thin and abundant. Collenchyma is thick and for structural support.
Sclerenchyma is DEAD, and is contained in things like bark. (makes up bark I mean)
