11/6 Flashcards
What is the type of cytokinesis in animals/other vs plants? What else has the same type of cytokinesis as plants?
In animals/other- furrowing
In plants- cell plate formation
Charophytes (green algae) also have cell plate formation like plants do
Okay so how are charophytes and land plants different then? What’s the magic word
The magic word is “multicellular.”
Land plants have multicellular sporangia, diploid sporophyte, multicellular gametophyte? multicellular embryos
What things do charophytes and land plants have in common?
Made of cellulose cell walls, similar photosynthetic properties?
What developments helped land plants prevent water loss?
Sporopollenin- coating around spores to keep from drying out
Waxy cuticle
MULTICELLULAR MULTICELLULAR MULTICELLULAR gametangia
Are land plants gametophyte or sporophyte dominant? What is the exception to this
Land plants are sporophyte dominant. The exception to this is bryophytes, which are gametophyte dominant.
How are bryophytes different from other land plants?
Bryophytes:
are not vascular plants (no vascular tissue)
Gametophyte dominance!
only have one sporangium
No lignin
What weird ass places can moss be found?
Lol Antarctica and the desert, lots of different types of places
Two biggest differences between liverworts and hornworts?
Hornworts have stomata, liverworts don’t
HOWEVER
Liverworts have gemmae cups (for asexual reproduction), hornworts don’t
