Camoflauge
Disguising as something else using natural or man made materials
Cover
Anything giving protection from bullets, fragments, flame, nuclear/biological/chemical agents and can conceal from enemy observation
Concealment
Hides you from observation but doesn’t protect from enemy fire
5 paragraph order components
SMEAC
Situation- enemy, friendly forces, attachments/detachments
Mission- concise statement of task to be accomplished
Execution- CONOPS, subordinate tasks, coordinating instructions
Admin/logistics- rations, ammo, distro point, medical, handling of POWs, etc
Command & signals- instructions on comm, signals, pyrotechnics, restrictions
SALUTE report
S- size of aggressor unit (pax and vehicles)
A- activity of enemy
L- location (grid, landmarks, distance and direction from known point)
U- unit identifiers
T- time of sighting
E- equipment enemy has (types of arms, vehicles, NBC equipment)
Selection criteria for LZs
Ground chosen must support safe landing of helicopters (level <7*, free of debris/loose natural elements)
Identifiable from the air
Enemy situation must be such that site can be secured without undue interference from enemy fires
Daylight zone must be 100ft larger than diameter of rotor blades, night 150ft larger
Landing point 10x longer than height of obstacle
LZ diameters for UH-1 and CH-53
Uh-1 rotor blade diameter 50ft, day/night LZ diameter 150/200ft
Ch-53 100, 200/250ft
Methods for marking LZ
Day: ground guide with M16A2 overhead, VS-17 chest panel, of other identifier
Inverted Y with chemical light sticks at night for lead aircraft
