What do christians believe about the birth of Jesus?
He didn’t have a normal conception
He had a normal birth - his mother was a virgin
What does the biblical basis of the incarnation include?
Matthew’s Gospel - Joseph was told about Jesus by an angel. - Jesus was born in Bethlehem. - They were visited by wise men - King Herod tried to kill Jesus
Luke’s Gospel - Mary was visited by and angel that said she had to go to Bethlehem. - After the birth they returned to Nazareth
John’s Gospel - records the incarnation in theological language
What is the significance of the incarnation?
Shows God’s love in sending his Son to show humans what God was like and to teach them how to live
Basis of christian faith - without it there would be no Christianity
Humans can see what God is like
God began the process of salvation from sin

John’s Gospel - Jesus was the Word made flesh
The Virgin Mary’s Conception - Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem and his recognition as the Son of God by shepherds and wise men is in the gospels of Matthew and Luke
