1.1.1 to 1.1.3 Flashcards
The part of hair beneath the skin’s surface
Root
Identifying marker of cortex
Cellular texture of cortex
Identifying marker of cuticle
Cuticle thickness
Identifying marker of medulla
Relative width, continuous/fragmented, opaque/translucent
Cuticle
Outermost layer of hair
Cortex
Middle layer of hair
Medulla
Innermost layer of hair
Link method
Used for any area; investigators form logical links between evidence until they piece together everything
Line/strip method
Used for large and/or outdoor scenes; investigators are put in regular intervals and search in straight lines
Grid method
Used for large and/or outdoor scenes; same as the line method, but there is another row of investigators perpendicular to search more
Zone method
Used for scenes with defined zones/sections; each team is assigned certain zones to search, and afterwards they use the appropriate method
Spiral method
Used for scenes with no physical barriers, like open water; begin at the critical point and spiral out, or begin on the outside of the scene and spiral in
Wheel/ray method
Used for small, circular scenes; Investigators start at an important central point and go outwards in straight lines from there
Iterative process
Repeating the same steps until the desired outcome is reached
Additional hair comparisons
Growth cycle, diameter, artificial treatment, damage, diseases
