What are some of the differences between MIDI controller automation data and pro tools track automation? What kinds of tracks can pro tools automation be used on?
All midi automation data has a resolution of 127 steps. Pro tools track automation has a much higher resolution. Audio can support only one automation playlist while each midi playlist includes automation.
What is the different between the write, touch, and latch automation modes?
Write - writes from start of playback to end of playback
Latch - writes from start of modification to end of playback
Touch - writes while a parameter is being modified.
When might you suspend automation? What is the difference between the suspend button and the write enable button?
Suspending an individual parameter write-protects it during an automation pass. Globally suspending tracks allows you to freely adjust volume, etc without effecting automation.
What are the two ways to display an automation playlist in the edit window?
Using the track view selector or the lanes. Hold option to view the same lanes or automation playlist in all tracks.
What are some ways that the grabber tool can be used to edit an automation playlist? What are some ways that the pencil tool can be used to edit an automation playlist?
Grabber: click to add, drag to move breakpoints, option click to remove breakpoints
Pencil: draw automation
How is cutting automation data different from deleting automation data?
Cut adds break points at the beginning and end of selection. Delete does not.
What will be the result if you copy automation from a track displaying the volume automation graph and paste the automation on a track displaying pan automation?
It will work if you click edit>paste special>to current automation
How would you go about duplicating the volume automation for a track onto send B for the track?
Edit>paste special>to current automation
How can you delete individual breakpoints in an automation graph? How can you delete a range of automation breakpoints?

How can you affect automation on only one track if it is part of an edit group?

When would copying automation to a different type not work?
Interchanging between audio and midi or continuous and step
Tracks selected are displaying different automation
Multiple automation playlists on the clipboard are selected for a given track.
What are some of the parameters you can automate in pro tools?
Volume, pan, mute, all plugin controls
