11. Statically indeterminate beams Flashcards
What are the steps for solving beam deflection?
Define a statically determinate beam?
The number of equilibrium equations (vertical and rotational)
is the same as the number of unknown reactions (forces and
moments)
So basically, 2 reaction forces for the two equilibrium equations.
Simply in a sentence, what needs to be considered to solve a statically indeterminate beam?
As the number of equilibrium equations are now less than the unkown reactions (rotational and verticle). We must consider now the deflection of the beam before we solve the reactions
How do you work out a statically indeterminate beam using the double integration method?
How do you work out a statically indeterminate beam using the superposition method?
Note:
* you need to work out the reaction force to make the original condition work. This is done by evaluating one side and then evaluating a force equal and oposite to then match the original condition.
