1.1 Physiologic Prego Changes Flashcards
the outermost membrane, lines the inner eggshell
chorion
a sac-like extra-embryonic membrane that removes waste from the embryo
allantois
an extra-embryonic membrane that surrounds the egg yolk
yolk sac
the extra-embryonic membrane that surrounds the developing embryo
amnion
emerge from the chorion, invade theendometrium, and allow transfer of nutrients from maternal blood to fetal blood
chorionic villi
emerge from the chorion, invade theendometrium, and allow transfer of nutrients from maternal blood to fetal blood
chorion laeve
Where the placenta is attached, the branching villi resemble a leafy tree
chorion frondosum
Zygosity can be determined using: (5)
1-ultrasound 2-examination of the placenta 3-the sex of the fetuses 4-blood grouping 5-HLA typing and DNA analysis
TTTS only occurs in these twins:
Occurs only in monozygotic twins with monochorionic placentation
TAPS twin findings:
- donor twin –> anemic
- recipient twin–> often plethoric (congested) and polycythemia
- Hgb differences on CBC>5g/dL
TTTS twin findings:
- donor twin –> smaller (birth weight by 20% less than the recipient), receives less blood flow in general and generates less urine production, oligohydraminos
- recipient twin–> larger, receives too much fluid, develops fetal hydrops (FH) and polyhydraminos
Infants born with complications may benefit from:
histologic evaluation of the placenta
Uterus Changes Timeline: gravid uterus 2-3 cm below xiphoid process
38-40 wks
Uterus Changes Timeline: height of uterine fundus corresponds roughly (+/- 2 cm) to wks of gestational age
20-38 wks
Uterus Changes Timeline: uterus at the level of umbilicus, probable quickening
20 wks
