or All People Seem To Need Data Processing
Layer 7: Application
Layer 6: Presentation
Layer 5: Session
Layer 4: Transport
Layer 3: Network
Layer 2: Data Link
Layer 1: Physical
What does Layer 1 of the OSI Model include and what is it’s Protocol Data Unit (PDU)?
Media, signal, and binary transmission. The physical hardware.
PDU: Bit
What does Layer 2 of the OSI Model include and what is it’s Protocol Data Unit (PDU)?
Gets the data to the physical layer. Also handles error correction.
Sub layers are: Logical Link Control (LLC) and MAC (Physical) Addressing
Ethernet
PDU: Frame
What does Layer 3 of the OSI Model include and what is it’s Protocol Data Unit (PDU)?
Path determination and IP (Logical) Addressing.
PDU: Packet
What does Layer 4 of the OSI Model include and what is it’s Protocol Data Unit (PDU)?
End to end connections and reliability.
TCP and UDP.
PDU: Segment
What does Layer 5 of the OSI Model include?
Synchronizes data between
applications on two different
devices.
What does Layer 6 of the OSI Model include?
Data encoding and encryption.
What does Layer 7 of the OSI Model include?
Serves to provide processes
that enable applications to use
network services.
