11 Mycoplasma, Chlamydiae, Mycobacterium (Infectious Bacterial Agents) Flashcards
Mycoplasma
-NO CELL WALL
-Virulence: CARDS toxin (AB toxin damaging epithelial cells)
-Clinical:
Atypical bacteria
Cause of “WALKING PNEUMONIA”
Chlamydiae
-Gram (-) obligate intracellular parasites
-Life cycle:
ELEMENTARY BODY (INFECTIOUS)
RETICULATE BODY (NONINFECTIOUS)
-C. trachomatis: nongonococcol urethritis, trachoma, neonatal conjuctivis
-C. pneumoniae (atypical bacteria): community acquired pneumonia
Mycobacteria
Mycobacteria tuberculosis:
-Acid test, mycolic acids
-Virulence: cell wall suflolipids
-Clinical: Primary disease (tubercle formation (granuloma), pneumonitis); Secondary disease (reactivation): alcoholism, malnutrition, immunosupression
-Antibiotic resistance
Mycobacteria leprae:
-acid fast, contains mycolic acids in cell wall
-Clinical: leprosy (tuberculoid, lepromatous)
