11. Information System Data Integrity Flashcards
What are control systems
Control systems encompass polciies, standards, and procedures aimed at preventing and detecting violations.
What are two categories of controls
General controls and application controls
What are gneeral controls
Controls that have a pervasive impact on the data
- physical security
- logical access
- distributed computing
What is physical security
who has the phyiscal meals to limit access to authorized personnel.
- lock and key
- security
- placement and equipment
What are logical access controls?
Controls used for computer applications to limit access to authorized users
- user ID
- passowrds
- redundant physical devices
- biometric recognition
What is distributed computing
Ability to carry on information system acitivites outside the physical boundaries of the organization. This creates a security concern but can be mitigated with encryption, firewalls, virus protection.
What are application controls
controls that are built into software to ensure that the data is maintined and processed accurately.
- idnetification and authorization of users
- validity checks of data entry
- input controls
