Radio to gamma what happens
Increase in energy
Decrease in wavelength
Increase in frequency
Quanta
Energy can only be absorbed or released from atoms in certain amounts
What is an emission spectroscopy
Spectrum is examined to see the wavelength emitted
What is an absorption spectroscopy
Light of certain wavelengths is absorbed and electrons are promoted to higher energy levels
What does the number of lines on the spectrum relate to
How many different electron transitions are possible
Explain how a line emission spectrum is formed
Electrons are promoted. They then fall to a lower level and a photon of light is emitted.
Explain why there is a series of lines at discrete wavelengths
Due to the different transitions available
What happens when the concentration of solution increases
The intensity of radiation absorbed also increases
