106 Flashcards
List the indications for CVC
1) Hemodynamics monitor
2) Vasopressors
3) Caustic medications
What are the 3 peaks in an ICP pressure waveform?
What is abnormal?
P1 - Percussion wave
P2 - Tidal wave
P3 - Dicrotic wave
Abnormal is if P2 is > P1 (gives you the finger)
What is the min and max rates of the alaris pump?
0.1 ml/hr to 999 ml/hr
What is normal and pathological ICP?
Normal is less than 15
Pathological is greater than 20
What are complications of a CVC?
Air emboli
Infections
Thrombosis
Catheter tip fracture from introducer needle
Incorrect positions
Phlebitis
Pneumothorax
Where is an ICP transducer leveled?
Tragus of the ear
Analyze a central venous pressure (CVP) waveform and define the relevant characteristics.
a wave - right atrial contraction
c wave - tricuspid valve bulging into right atrium during right ventricular contraction
x descent - atrial relaxation
v wave - right atrial filling
y descent - tricuspid valve opening and right atrial emptying as right ventricle fills
What are the common causes of overdampening or underdampening?
Overdamping Common Causes
1) Air bubbles in line
2) Clot in catheter
3) Pressure bag not inflated
4) Loose connection
5) Arterial spasm
Underdampening Common Causes
1) Stiff or not compliant tubing
What are the contraindications of CVC?
1) Acute cellulitis
2) Thrombotic Veins
