What is royal assent?
The formal signing and approval of a bill by the Governor-General or the governor after which the bill becomes an Act of Parliament
What is the Executive Council?
The governor-general is responsible for appointing the Executive Council. It comprises of the leader of the government and senior ministers
What is the role of the Executive Council?
To give advice on government matters, and approve secondary legislation
What is secondary legislation?
rules and regulations made by secondary authorities which are given the power to do so by parliament. The Queen’s representative takes advice from the prime minister or premier
