103 Flashcards
Discuss the concept of Operational Risk Management.
“1. Decision-making tool to increase operational effectiveness by anticipating hazards and reducing the potential for loss
- Increases ability to make informed decisions
- Attempts to minimize risk to acceptable levels”
“Discuss the requirements for the provision and use of PPE and why it is necessary.
“1. PPE is required in situations where engineering or administrative controls are not available or effective.
- All personnel who are required to use PPE must be trained on its proper use.
- PPE prevents or limits hazardous exposures and, in doing so, helps decrease personnel loss due to mis-haps
Discuss the purpose of safety stand-downs.
Provides a dedicated period of time for safety training, awareness, and drills
Highlights the importance of safety in the workplace. Should be conducted at least annually, but may be called any time if conditions warrant more training.
Discuss the purpose of the Naval Aviation Safety Program.
To increase operational readiness by preserving lives and protecting equipment and material.
NASP does so by attempting to prevent mishaps by eliminating their causes beforehand.
State the purpose of the Laser Safety Hazard Control Program.
To preserve and maintain the health of personnel by adopting practices which eliminate or control exposure.
What are the four general classes of fires and which types of extinguishers are used on each?
A - Solid substances (wood, cloth, & paper) which, usually leave an ash. Explosives are in this category. Water.
B - Flammable liquids. For small fires or in confined spaces, CO2 & purple “K” powder (PKP). For large fires, aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF). Spaces are equipped with HALON 1301.
C - Ignite in electrical/electronic equipment. De-energize the equipment & CO2.
D - Involve combustible metals & any fires that require special handling. High or Low - velocity fog
What is NATOPS?
Naval Air Training and Operating Procedures Standardization - The operation manual for any Naval aircraft.
List the steps of ORM.
"I AM I IS" Identification of hazards Assessment of risks Making risk decisions Implementing controls Supervision
What is the purpose of the Marine Corps Hearing Conservation Program?
Marine Corps Hearing Conservation Program goal is to prevent Marine Corps personnel from suffering occupational hearing loss due to noise exposure and ensure auditory fitness for duty in the Marine and civilian workforce.
