102.1 Flashcards
3 different types of pathogenic bacteria
1 cocci 1 staphylococci 2 streptococci 3 diplococci 2 bacilli 3 spirilla
What is the medical term for head lice
Pediculosis capitis
What is the medical term for ringworm
Tinea capitis
What are the three shapes for pathogens
1) round (cocci)
2) rod (bacilli)
3) spiral (spirilla)
What is staphylococci
Pus-forming bacterial cell’s
• Form as grape-like bunches or in clusters
• Present In abscesses, pustules and boils
• Some types won’t cause infection but others could be fatal
What is streptococci
Pus-forming bacterial cells
• Form in long chains and can cause septicemia(sometimes called blood poisoning),strep
throat, rheumatic fever and other serious infections
What is diplococci
Bacteria cells that grow in pairs
Cause of certain infections such as pneumonia
Movement of bacteria
Cocci, for example, utilize air or dust movement.
• Bacilli and spirilla have the ability to move by themselves by using hair-like projections called flagella
or cilia which extend from the sides of the cell.
• Awave-like motion from flagella and a rowing-like motion from cilia can easily propel the cell through a
liquid.
