A

Marine Corps was reorganized into the Fleet Marine Force. Establishing the command and administrative relations between the Fleet and Marines. The Marine Corps Equipment Board was established in Quantico, Virginia where Marines devoted long hours to the testing and developing of materials for landing operations and expeditionary service.

A

Marines landed in South Vietnam committing them to its longest war in history. They participated in many operations and were part of the Pacification Program designed to win the support of the local populace. In response of a coup by the local government, Marines landed in the Dominican Republic to escort and protect US citizens. They were part of a multinational defense force that quickly restored peace.

A

Marines deployed to Lebanon as part of multinational peacekeeping force in order to restore peace and order to this war torn country. This displayed the Marine concept of “Force in Readiness”. On 23 OCT 1983 a suicide truck bomb attacked the headquarters killing 241 Americans and wounding 70 others. Last marine withdrew July of 1984.

A

Operation Desert Storm (ODS) was initiated after the Iraqi government refused to comply with United Nations Resolutions. Marine aviation was heavily used when the air phase commenced January of 1991. When bombing runs failed to dislodge Iraqi forces, ground forces swept into Kuwait liberating the country and delivering a devastating blow to the Iraqi military.

Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) was the name used by the US for in Afghanistan, along with 3 other smaller military operations under the umbrella of GWOT. On 07 OCT 2001, a mix of land based B-1/2/52’s, carrier based F-14/18’s, and Tomahawk Cruise Missiles launched from US and British ships and subs was the signal for the start of the war.
