How would oesophageal carcinoma present?
Dysphagia, weight loss
How would gastric cancer present?
Symptoms vague
Advanced cancer- weight loss, vomiting, epigastric pain
What investigations would be done if oesophageal carcinoma or gastric cancer were suspected?
Endoscopy, biopsy, barium meal
When will an oesophageal adenocarcinoma occur?
Barrett’s oesophagus
Where will advanced gastric cancer spread to?
Lymph nodes, liver, peritoneum, ovaries
What are the 4 types of tumours of the large intestine?
Anal carcinoma, polyps, adenoma, adenocarcinoma
What is Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP)?
Autosomal dominant condition causing lots of adenomas to form. There is a high risk of the adenomas becoming malignant.
What are the stages of Duke’s staging for colorectal adenocarcinomas?
A- confined to bowel wall
B- through wall but no lymph node involvement
C- lymph node involvement
