Potsdam - The division of Korea along the 38th parallel. The North zone occupied by the su and the south occupied by the USA (communists vs capitalists)

Diplomatic relations between the two were established on October 12, 1948

Rhee called for American support to overthrow Kim and Kim sent raiding parties across the border to undermine southern government

1949 He asked Stalin to help him invade the south and Stalin agreed to provide weapons but not troops in 1950

The north’s troops remained and so the UN sent troops to support rhee.
