10. Cardiac pacing Flashcards
1
Q
What are methods of pacing?
A
Non-invasive:
1. Percussion pacing
2. Transcutaneous pacing
Invasive:
1. Temporary transvenous pacing
2. Permanent pacing
2
Q
What is demand mode in a cardiac pacing device and what are its limitations?
A
- Demand mode is whereby pacemaker is inhibited if a natural QRS complex occurs
- Movement artefacts may be misinterpreted as QRS complex and inhibit pacing
3
Q
What is normal pacing rate?
A
60-90/min
4
Q
At what currents does electrical capture usually occur in transcutaneous pacing?
A
50 - 100mA
5
Q
Can CPR occur in patients undergoing transcutaneous pacing?
A
Yes, though there is no benefit to pacing during CPR so the device should be turned off
