Natural Resource
Natural resources are resources that are drawn from nature and used with few modifications. Any natural substance that humans use can be considered a natural resource.
Renewable Resource
A renewable resource is a resource of which there is an endless supply because it can be replenished. The sun, wind, and geothermal heat are considered are renewable resources.
Nonrenewable Resource
Nonrenewable resources include coal, natural gas, oil, and nuclear energy. Once they are used up, they cannot be replaced.
Fossil Fuel
A natural fuel that is formed from the remains of living organisms, like remains of dead plants and animals that are extracted and burned as a fuels.
Nuclear Fission
When the nucleus of an atom splits into two or more parts, which then releases energy.
Nuclear Fusion
Nuclear fusion happens when two nuclei join to form a single nucleus.
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle
A hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is a vehicle that uses hydrogen fuel for motive power. Hydrogen vehicles include space rockets, as well as ships and aircraft.
Solar Energy
energy that is given off by the sun
Wind Energy
energy that is given off by the wind
Hydroelectric energy
energy that is given off by water going through hydro dams.
Biomass
fuel developed from organic matter waste of living organisms like plants, animals, and forests.
Gasohol
A fuel consisting of 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline. It is used as fuel in internal combustion engines.
Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is heat that comes from within the earth. Geothermal energy is a renewable energy source because heat is continuously produced inside the earth.
Petroleum
A liquid mixture of hydrocarbons that is present in certain rock. It can be extracted and refined to produce fuels including gasoline, kerosene, and diesel oil.
Natural Gas
A natural flammable gas that can be pumped from the earth and used as fuel.
