personal foul vs technical foul
Personal: a foul that involves illegal physical contact such as blocking, charging, elbowing or holding
Technical: a foul called against a player or coach for unsportsmanlike conduct such as arguing with a referee
backboard
a board behind the basket, off which the ball may rebound
overtime
a three-minute(for GBA in NBA it is 5mins) extra period that is played when the game is tied after four quarters
turnover
a player loses the ball to a member of the other team without taking a shot
What are the 4 Boundary Lines called
2 end lines( Baseline and EndLine)
2 side lines
lines are not part of the playing court, If you step on the line it is an out of bounce violation.

You went past the defender and the defender is either at your side or behind you. He is no longer between you and the basket.
Ball defender vs screen defender
Ball defender defends the person holding the ball
Screen defender defends the person who sets up the screen
What are the 5 positions in basketball
point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center

over and back violation
In offense once a team progress the ball to the frontcourt they cannot retreat back to halfcourt

backcourt time violation
The failure to bring the ball from the backcourt into the frontcourt in the allotted 10 seconds.
lane violation( also called as 3-second rule). In GBA it is 5second.
5 seconds in GBA
A player shall not remain in their team’s foul lane for more than three consecutive seconds while that player’s team is in control of a live ball in the frontcourt and the game clock is running. The countdown starts when one foot enters the restricted area and resets when both feet leave the area.
inbounding time violation
A player passing the ball in-bounds has five seconds to pass the ball in after the ref hands over the ball to the inbounder.
Don’t look at the ref till the team is set to receive the ball.
