1. The Seeker's Journey Flashcards
Why Meditate?
Does Meditation also address our original aims?
What does meditation actually do? What does it create?
‘Why Meditate’? Why is the answer complex?
If the journey is infinite? What are we moving towards? give 12 examples.
‘From selfishness toward selflessness,’ he said. ‘From the reactive mind to the responsive heart; from imprisonment in the folds of ego to freedom from ego; from the here and now to eternal, timeless existence; from worshipping forms to formlessness; from contraction to expansion; from restlessness to peacefulness; from the superficial to the authentic; from insistence to acceptance; from imbalance to balance; from darkness to light; from heaviness to lightness; from grossness to subtlety; from the periphery to the core of the Being, the Source, the Higher Self.
What is the purpose of meditation, religion, self-help and psychiatry?
To transform us.
Why do various religions often appear to speak different languages?
What leads to people arguing about religions and even some becoming atheists? How can meditation help with this?
Do knowledge and experience help in transforming us? Why or why not? If not, then what is the use of experience?
Knowledge and experience only work at the conscious level. That is not enough. Our thoughts, attitudes, emotions, and habits have roots in the infinite vastness of the subconscious. What’s more, our subliminal thoughts are more powerful than the thoughts we consciously entertain. This is one of the reasons that we fail when restricting our efforts at change to the conscious level. We can change deliberate actions, but how to change subconscious action? When we are barely even aware of something, can we change it? This is our biggest hurdle when trying to affect meaningful change in our lives.
How does meditation convert secondhand knowledge into something useful.
With practice we also start to learn from our _______.
What are our experiences tell us?
Experiences reflect our inner nature.
Weeventually realize that there is one single factor that affects all my experiences. What is it?
The way we handle our ego. The higher my egotism, the worse my experience is. The more humble and insignificant I am, the better my experience is. It’s a simple formula! Then, one day, a light bulb goes on in my head: How would it be if I were to become a total zero—if I were to become nothing?’
When does experience become effective?
When there is no inner resistance (to be expanded)
When can the heart of a human change?
The heart only changes when it decides to change. And that is a personal choice that every person must make for themselves. We cannot enforce it upon them. We can only inspire them and offer them the tools.
