A

Entamoeba histolytica:
- Humans ingest: from faeces, infected food/water, insects
- Organisms break down the intestinal wall and can make their way to the blood system

Q

Describe the lifecycle of Plasmodium

A
  1. Mosquito has sporozoites, when it bites human these enter the bloodstream, go to the liver
  2. They divide and penetrate the RBCs → intracellular parasite
  3. Now called trophozoites, inside RBCs they reproduce and burst out = fever symptom
  4. Trophozoites → gametocytes. Infected human is bitten by mosquito they sexually reproduce in gut and they move to the salivary glands
    = cycle repeats
