Q
Define afterload. Name the most common measures of afterload.
A
The mechanical force on the ventricle during ejection; or tension in the myocardium. Common measurements are aortic pressure, peripheral vascular resistance, myocardial peak wall stress, arterial impedance, and LV pressure.
1
Q
What is the most often used parameter to estimate preload? Name some other measures.
A
End diastolic volume (EDV). Also EDP, wall stress at and diastole, end diastolic muscle length.
2
Q
What is the law if Leplace?
A
Wall stress~ pressureradius/ 2wall thickness.
3
Q
Define wall stress.
A
Force per unit of cross sectional area of muscle.
