A

JW.

18
Q

Do you log when crossing the Line of Demarcation?

A

Yes.

19
Q

What scale do you use on the DDRT for Man Overboard?

A

200: 1.

20
Q

How often must the bearing/range of the man be relayed to the bridge?

A

15 seconds.

21
Q

What signals does the ship use by day to indicate MOB?

A

Oscar flag and six short blasts.

22
Q

To DR the man back, what formula do you use?

A

23
Q

What turn is used at night for MOB recovery?

A

Williamson.

24
Q

What turn is used in restricted waters?

A

Backing “Y”.

25
Q

What turn do we normally use for MOB recovery?

A

Anderson.

26
Q

Which scale is ALWAYS used to measure nautical distance on a Mercator Projection chart?

A

Latitude.

27
Q

In terms of nautical distance, 32’8” of latitude equals how many nautical miles in length?

A

32.8 NM.

28
Q

Why must the longitude scale NEVER be used to measure nautical distance on a Mercator projection chart?

A

As the curved surface of the Earth is projected onto a flat surface of the distortion of the longitudinal planes (north- south meridian) occurs.

While the latitude scale also expands on a Mercator Projection chart, the expansion is always exactly equal to the expansion of distance at the same latitude.

Therefore, the latitude scale are always constant, while the longitude scales are distorted.

29
Q

What is the MOST COMMON type of chart used in CIC?

A

Mercator Projection.

30
Q

What type of chart is used above 80 degrees North or 80 degrees South latitude?

A

Gnomonic Projection.
