What was the four humours?
An idea that rested on the belief that the body was formed of the four humours:BLOOD,PHLEGM, BLACK BILE ,YELLOW BILE
Who developed the idea of the four homours?
The four humours was an idea developed by the Ancient Greeks
What was the miasma theory?
A belief that bad air and harmful fumes caused disease
What was the spontaneous generation theory?
A theory which claimed that rotting materials (e.g excrement/rotting vegetables) created maggots,fleas,disease
How did limited doctors knowledge affect progress in medicine?
Faulty understanding=Faulty doctor training=ideas on prevention and treatment would be ineffective
Why was the knowledge of doctors faulty?
They could only observe few dissections during their training=because most ppl wanted to be buried after death=due to belief in after life
So.. most bodies came from executed criminals=made it difficult to plan any research on the symptoms of disease/study particular conditions

The lack of available technology made it difficult for doctors to have an understanding of disease

Lack of funding for research and developments of new ideas
Hospital funding usually came from charities which left little money over for research because gov didn’t feel a responsibility to issues like this
Explain a 3rd factor limiting progress in medicine
Poor attitudes of doctors who did not want to have to learn new ways on treating patients
Also no proof that disproved their methods
