they answer the phone, make appointments, file pt records, and complete transactions. most are mainly trained on the job but there are training programs for vet receptionists.

they interview and hire new staff, are in charge of advertising positions, order supplies and oversee inventory, maintain accounting records, paying bills, and manage employee payroll. sometimes the veterinarian of small practices is the veterinary practice manager too. large practices will have a VPM, who is usually a vet but with specialized training. the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association offers a national exam to be certified

help perform physical exams, prep animals and equipment for surgery, teeth cleaning, blood collection, perform lab tests, anesthetize animals, perform prescribed treatments, take xrays, client education, and sometimes work reception desk. // can do specialized work if trained like emergency nursing, advanced dentistry, anesthesia, or zoo technology.

they assist the veterinary technicians with procedures, help restrain animals, develop x rays, maintain equipment and supplies, counting rx’s and packaging and labeling rx’s, work front desk, prepare lab samples for testing, and schedule appointments. they train on the job or complete a vocational program.
