Q

T/F You can do a prophy before a comp oral if the patient’s hygiene is so poor your can’t properly evaluate the teeth

A

F- You can’t charge as a prophy it is a full mouth debridement (for comp eval and dx)

6
Q

What are the advantages of supragingival margins

A
  • Can be finished without soft tissue trauma
  • Easily kept plaque free
  • Impressions more easily made
  • Easier restoration evaluation
  • They are in enamel (subgingival=dentin)
  • Exposure to fluoride and saliva

7
Q

When can a subgingival margin be justified

A
  • Dental caries, cervical erosion or restorations extend subgingivally and crown lengthening is not indicated
  • Proximal contact extends to the gingival crest
  • Additional retention/resistance needed
  • Hide a MCC margin (high lip line)
  • Root sensitivity can’t be controlled by more conservative means
  • Modification of axial contour(i.e provide undercut for retention of RPD clasp)

16
Q

What is the definition of a problem

A

significant finding that has a treatment need which doesn’t fit the classic definition of a diagnosis

17
Q

What does a clinical finding become a problem

A
  • A disease or condition with potential for disease
  • Condition of dysfunction
  • Esthetic issue with patient
  • Condition that can’t be fully determined by simple clinical inspection
  • Condition that complicates treatment
18
Q

For any treatment involving indirect restorations (fixed or removable) you must have what before tx.

A

mounted dx casts

19
Q

How should you address an urgent need for a patient coming in with a comp oral appointment

A
  • Take vitals
  • Update med Hx
  • Stop the comp oral and discuss the urgent need with a faculty
20
Q

Give examples of dysfuntion

A

altered speech and mastication
