He landed in Pembrooke Wales marched northeast of England and gained support of Rhys and Thomas (most powerful landowners in Wales and therefore gained soldiers for battle, walked towards Shrewsbury not strong enough against Richard III - Nottingham

5,000 strong army collected by Henry (22nd August)

met Richard III in battle of Bosworth field

sir William Stanley saved Henry from Richard with cavalry to defeat Richard III

A

Edward VI’s and Richard III sister

she was already against Henry for killing her brother

had influence over burgundy and therefore had a lot of power and resources

husband was Duke of Burgundy - powerful dukedom and mart of Netherlands and France important trading partner with England

Husband died 1477 - still powerful in Burgundy outside England so massive threat and prepared to fund anyone that prepared to overthrow Henry

supported Yorkists - financially with resources to remove England and help fund battle of Suffolk

alliance with Elizabeth Woodville (deal with Henry VII would marry Elizabeth of York and would support Henry - became influential)

A

there were fights between Y and L there was a lot of destruction so many people died and land was therefore given to the crown

nobles were on losing side 9Richard III) were disinherited as traitors were punished

outsider due to living abroad in exile so and little enemies - does not owe debts to people

people tired of disruption of power and ready to support henry as new King people not bothered about who was King - wanted to live their own lives and have calm in kingdom)

he was an only child and therefore there were no family feuds getting in the way

he was a successful deader and soldier and therefore had less opposition

A

prevents anyone from overthrowing before he is crowned and means more security and protection if he actually is a monarch (can claim on treason)

he would have quick approval by the church (god helped people as if they were to kill or overthrow him it would go against chain of being

did it before marriage and first parliamentary meeting nobody could say helped him gain the throne
