Jacob takes as payment for his services only the speckled and dark animals. Laban furtively removes these from his flock. Jacob places branches with streaks and spots in the water troughs when the strongest of the flock came to drink, causing the animals to produce strong offspring that were speckled or dark.

A

Because his son Er who had married Tamar died, as did his second son, Onan, who refused to conceive with her.

A

Disguised as a prostitute, seduces Judah (father-in-law), asking for his signet, cord and staff as a pledge of payment. Judah learns of pregnancy, orders her to be burnt for whoredom, but she produces his things, he realizes his own hypocrisy and acknowledges her righteousness.
