When is direct pulp capping indicated?

A
  • surrounding dentine is sound
  • pulp tissue is red and homogenous, free from yellow liquified areas which indicate pulpal necrosis
  • no dentine chips present on the wound
  • haemostasis can be achieved within 2-3 minutes

A
  • mineralised tissue forms to repair the pulpal exposure
  • this tissue is not tubular (unlike dentine)
  • this mineralised tissue is laid down by fibroblasts and should be consider reparative - NOT regenerative
