1 - Digital Transformation Flashcards
What are the focus areas for culture transformation?
T (people)
E (Each program, perk, service that enables a culture of innovation)
S (How a business organises itself)
S (how to align people to your orgs purpose)
E (enabling access to relevant info and encouraging use to solve problems and improve business)
I (doing something in a surprising new way)
Talent, Environment, Structure, Strategy, Empowerment, Innovation
The 3 rules for scaling the innovation mindset are:
Focus on the user
Think 10X
Launch and innovate
What are the 4 focus areas to help you narrow down the scope of your users expectations?
A, E, C, C
Access (faster and easier services with always on capabilities and accessed from anywhere)
Engagement (valued content, reliable content - engage in multiple fields of expertise in the process of prod dev)
Customisation (Product or services seamlessly adapts to their needs)
Communication (with service providers)
The 3 rules for scaling the innovation mindset are:
Focus on the user
Think 10X
Launch and innovate
What is 10X thinking?
If a 10% mindset means/focuses on improvement, what does a 10X mindset mean/focus on?
What is an example?
Generating big ideas and thinking transformation over improvement
Google map maker in Pakistan (instead of trying to resolve the lack of map data in Pakistan only, they launched ‘Map Maker’ for locals to upload their own data for their areas, and had all data within two years. saved lives during flooding
The 3 rules for scaling the innovation mindset are:
Focus on the user
Think 10X
Launch and innovate
What does Launch and innovate mean? What is an example?
- continuous learning
- enables the team to apply 10X thinking
- instead of launching a perfect solution, launch and learn from failure
- try, learn from the output, try again
- find a transformative solution instead of minor improvements
- fail fast instead of perfecting an idea
An example: Google glass. Launched to the general public - found them awkward to wear. Now they are successful after being launched in healthcare, manufacturing
Cloud is the network of data centres that..
Cloud computing is the technology and processes needed to…
Stores and compute information available through the internet
Store, Manage and Access data through the cloud
What is a burning platform?
Give an example of businesses that did & did not accept the next technology paradigm
Example is printing era was a burning platform as cloud came into play
Both Nintendo and companies that sold encyclopedias were born in the printing era.
Nintendo embraced cloud:
Nintendo - Playing cards > Game Boy > Mobile App (Pokemon Go) > Nintendo Switch
Encyclopedia Companies did not:
Focussed on selling physical books - Alot of overheads - these companies lost sight of the true mission - to capture and share information by any means.
As new tech became available instead of using this to transform, it served as a threat and eventually driven out of business.
How does combining computer power with data work in:
Traditional Computing
and
Cloud Computing
Traditional: Taking a piece of information (an input) through an algorithm, to get an output.
- This is tedious process as it means a person has to manually train the computer step by step. I
- It will still process the info faster than a human, but it can only do what a human has taught it. Nothing more.
- Static Process.
Cloud Computing: You can take the exisiting input and output data side by side and generate a trained algorithm.
- This means it uses exisiting input and output data to learn the correct outcome when faced with info it hasnt encountered before. - Self learning
What is an examples of combining compute power with data for an image recognition application? (what is the input, what is the output?)
Google photos
- Photos: Input
- Select the family member/friend: Output
Then automatically recognise and catagorise your family and friends even if their appearance changes over time. E,g a baby that grows to be a child and then an adult.
How does cloud enable equal opportunity across businesses large and small?
Large businesses with big budgets used to have a competitive advantage and operate at scale, with the ability to set up and maintain infrastructure, providing staff with the tools to do their work.
Cloud enables equal opportunity by allowing small businesses to disrupt industries that used to be owned by larger businesses
Example:
Food trucks / restaurants
- Food trucks can be on google maps, using delivery apps
What are 3 things ML enables in these industries?
Manufacturers to schedule..
Online retailers using smart analytics tools can ingest realtime behaviour data while using ML to..
Medical - ML models are trained to analyse images to help with…
Manufacturers to schedule predictive maintenance which leads to higher productivity and less downtime
Online retailers using smart analytics tools can ingest realtime behaviour data while using ML to serve instant recommendations to users based on past behaviour. more personalised with each click
ML models are trained to analyse images to help with medical diagnosis
