1. Characterisation (no slide copies in the deck, yet) Flashcards
What are nanomaterials?
Ocean: typical definition for nanosized particles is
Mention 7 different techniques with which you can characterise material at the nanoscale. What type of information does each technique provide.
Ocean: SEM, TEM, X-ray diffractie, electron diffraction, IR/Raman/UV/Vis spectroscopy, NMR, gas and Hg adsoprtion. SEM: surface down to 1 nm TEM: crystal structure X-ray: crystal, amorpheus, distorted crystal electron: same as X-ray? IR, Raman: crystal structure, atom environment NMR: atom environment Gas adsorption: micro and mesopores Hg porosometry: size and volume of meso/macropores
Mention several analytical techniques with which you can get information about the crystal structure of a nanomaterial.
TEM, diffraction, IR, Raman, NMR (answer correct?)
Give an example of an adsorption isotherm and what information can be derived from it.
y-axis: amount absorbed, x-axis: relative pressure
describe the Langmuir/BET model.
