Areas to Avoid when Flight Planning
Avoid areas of caution to flight
Pilotage
Art of knowing where you are on a map and being able to use a map and compare it with surroundings
Dead Reckoning
Knowing where are by using ground speed, time, heading, and initial position
Congested area Safe Altitude
Congested area you must be above 1000’ above tallest obstacle within a 2000’ radius
Non-Congested Safe Altitude
500’ above the surface
Water/Sparsely Populated area Safe Altitude
May be flown below 500’ but can’t be below 500’ over any person, vessel, vehicle, or structure
What Glide Distance is based off of
Based on terrain and obstacles, Aircraft, and Pilot Skill Level
Pilot Delay Cruise Altitude
Increase Cruise altitude for pilot delayed reaction time
Below 3000’ AGL Required Altitude
Altitude is Pilots discretion
Above 18,000 MSL Required Altitude
ATC Chooses Altitude
