1-10 Questions Flashcards
What is an autotroph
Autotrophs are organisms that make their own food
Ex. Algae
What is an heterotroph
Heterotrophs are organism that get food by eating other living things
Ex. Birds
Define photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is where autotrophs use sunlight energy to make carbs with high energy that can be used as food
What does ADP and ATP stand for
ADP- Adenosine diphosphate
ATP- Adenosine triphosphate
What’s the difference between ATP and ADP
ATP has three phosphate groups while ADP has two
What is the fx of ATP in cells
When a cell has energy available, it can store small amounts of it by adding phosphate groups to ADP molecules, producing ATP
List five activities that require ATP
Movement
Providing the energy for motor proteins that contract muscles power wavelike movement for cilia and flagella
Powers the synthesis of proteins
Responses to chemical signals at the cell surface
What are the three parts of ATP
Adenine
Five carbon sugar(ribose)
Three phosphate groups
What is the equation for photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide plus water equals glucose plus oxygen plus water
What are the reactants or photosynthesis
Cellular respiration, carbon dioxide, water
