What forms the hard palate?
Maxillary bone
What forms the soft palate?
Muscular tissue hanging from the palatine bone
How can you detect CNX damage in the oral cavity?
Uvula deviation
What epithelium is the oral mucosa?
Stratified squamous epithelium (some areas karatinised)
What are the frenulum of the oral cavity called?
Labial frenulum
Lingual frenulum
What is the motor innervation of the tongue?
CNXII
What is the sensory innervation of the tongue?
General - Posterior 1/3 - CNIX Glossopharyngeal
- Anterior 2/3 - CNV Lingual
Special - Posterior 1/3 - CNIX Glossopharyngeal (some CNX)
- Anterior 2/3 - CNVII Chorda tympani
What are the intrinsic muscles of the tongue and what do they do?
Longitudinal muscles - retract
Vertical - Flatten
Transverse - Sticks tongue out
