What is conductive hearing loss? List some causes.

A

hearing loss caused by loss of transmission of sound from outer ear to the inner ear.
Causes include blockage by wax, fluid in the middle ear or glue ear from middle ear infection, otosclerosis of the ossicles or other ossicle damage, perforated ear drum

What is sensorineural hearing loss? List some causes.

A

hearing loss due to damage somewhere in the pathway from the hair cells to the cortex.
Causes include age, acoustic trauma, infections (mumps, meningitis), Meniere’s disease, drugs (antibiotics), acoustic neuroma, congenital abnormalities, sclerosis, stroke, tumour.
